This report examines these shifts through the critical and unique lens of the employee, seeking to uncover the evolving dynamics and insights that can enhance the overall workplace experience.

Our research, conducted in January 2025 with nearly 11,000 responses from employees across 15 countries with hybrid work possibilities, alongside customer interviews and expert insights, reveals a clear reshaping of the fundamental purpose of the office space.

The traditional office concept is evolving. Hybrid work models show benefits of remote work while highlighting what's lost without in-person connections. Companies now navigate how to attract employees, build community, develop leadership and optimise office spaces. The office remains important, but differently than before.

This report explores these dynamics through four chapters based on key research insights:

Despite the flexibility offered by hybrid models, office space has become an even more vital element in fostering connection and engagement. Our findings highlight that hybrid working is here to stay, with many employees expecting their remote work arrangements to remain consistent. Crucially, the office plays a critical role in cultivating a sense of belonging, with a large majority of employees recognising the importance of the workplace.

This chapter underscores the need for a transformed office that can compete with the perceptions of remote work by focusing on creating meaningful experiences and enabling collaboration. While the flexibility of hybrid arrangements enables employees to feel less stressed, the office offers distinct advantages, particularly in facilitating time with colleagues and knowledge sharing.

Prioritising aspects like comfortable workspaces, social areas and even food experiences is essential. Furthermore, this chapter explores the importance of sustainability and the potential impact of artificial intelligence in shaping the workplace of tomorrow.
